MODERN
Modern dance became popular in the twentieeth century as an alternative to ballet. Though it uses a ballet base, Modern focuses on a more natural alignment and puts stress on torso employing such elements as contact-release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation.
Modern I (ages 5-8)

CONTEMPORARY
A form of dance that developed in the mid twentieth century and combines mnay dance genres. In terms of technique, contemporary dance tends to utilize both the strong and controlled legwork of ballet and modern dance's stress on the torso, and also employs contact-release, floor work, fall and recovery, and improvisation characteristic of modern dance. Contemporary dance is designed for the experienced dancer.

LYRICAL
Lyrical dance is technically in the genre of Jazz but is similar to contemporary ballet, combining the many technical elements of classical ballet with the freedom, fluidity and expressiveness of jazz and modern dance. Lyrical dance is expressive, simultaneously subtle and dynamic, focused on conveying musicality. **Lyrical dancers are encouraged to also take ballet as it encourages the grace and balance needed for advanced levels of Lyrical dance.**
